Career Experience
I have been teaching English Language Arts for over ten years. Most recently, in the last six years in Oregon, I taught high school AP Language and Composition (argument writing, argument analysis, rhetorical analysis, satire, college level research methods and writing), College Now writing courses for students seeking credits in college, 10th grade English, Mythology, World Literature, Environmental Literature, and Creative Writing (poetry and short stories). Prior to that I taught social studies and English Language Arts in an Oregon middle school. When I lived in Nevada, I taught high school British Literature, Mythology, and Essay Writing. I began my teaching passion over twenty years ago as an AVID tutor in California, and as I went through school for my degrees, I often tutored college students for their English courses. I have teaching experience across three states and have abundant experience with students from many different demographics. My teaching career has taught me a lot about humanity and society, and I am thankful for my background in helping so many different kinds of learners!
I Love Tutoring Because
as a teacher, it was hard to give students the one-on-one support they needed. But as a tutor, I can focus just on one student at a time and cater my assistance to their needs. I also like building a rapport with students who keep coming back. Moreover, the very BEST thing about tutoring is that I actually learn from the students! Oftentimes, the topics they write about for their assignments teach me things I never knew before. I am insanely curious, and because of this I ask students questions about their assignments on a deeper level, which helps them understand an audience--and it teaches me new information all the time!
