Career Experience
I’m a professional English/Language Arts educator with 20+ years of public school classroom experience and instructional leadership. I’ve worked with students grades 9-12 in many courses, including Advanced Placement English Language and Composition and AP English Literature. In 2002, I co-founded our high school's signature college preparatory course of study and served as academic coordinator until 2022. I remained in the classroom while leading the program which, in its first two years, expanded student participation in Advanced Placement by more than 250%. I also helped write our district curriculum for both AP English Language and Composition and AP Literature, chaired our English department from 2013 to 2016, and served on our school’s Instructional Council. I hold teaching licenses in English grades 7-12 in both Minnesota and Maryland, and am currently pursuing an additional licensure in English for Speakers of Other Languages.
I Love Tutoring Because
exploring the English language with students is a joy. I love how the tutoring model enables me to offer unqualified attention, direct communication, and one-on-one collaboration with a learner seeking support. Some invaluable growth can occur when a student has a low-stress, personalized space to question, reflect, practice, decide, revise, connect, comprehend, and grow. It’s a privilege, and immensely fun, to contribute to that kind of learning context.
