Career Experience
I was a tutor through a community college work-study program for a year at the local public library. I taught math and English to anyone who attended, so the math ranged from basic arithmetic to introductory calculus. Meanwhile, the people ranged from grade school students to retirees. When few people would attend the lessons I would help people with other kinds of homework, like physics and biology. The English teaching was for people who spoke it as second language. Since the service was free, a lot of people came because they wanted to know more refined English for job applications. I also helped some people prepare for their citizenship tests as well as teaching some Spanish. Reading and writing comprehension was also a big topic. A lot of concerned parents would ask if I could come in on weekends and help their kid study for big exams or just help them understand what they were reading a bit more. I stopped tutoring in person when I transferred over to university, but I continued to do online.
I Love Tutoring Because
it offers a personalized learning experience which is often worth more than a professional lecture. With class sizes of 200+ students, it is natural that some will be left behind, and I love being able to bring them up to speed, especially when the reality is that they aren't as lost as they feel.
