A cozy place to get an MBA, Else School of Management at Millsaps College maintains a friendly “small-college feel” alongside a “strong reputation for academic excellence” throughout the South. With its pleasant, liberal arts atmosphere, “you feel welcome no matter where you are on campus, and the size gives you a warmth you wouldn’t expect” from a top-rated business program. The intimate environment really distinguishes the Else School experience, in which “faculty and staff always take a personal interest in helping students reach their goals.” Thanks to the low MBA enrollment, students can also count on having “smaller class sizes” throughout the graduate business program, giving them a chance to interact closely with their professors, as well as their classmates. From economics to marketing, “the atmosphere of class is always full of discussion and open-minded conversation.”The only Millsaps department to confer graduate-level degrees, Else offers a Masters in accounting, as well as a full-time MBA program for traditional students and an Executive MBA for mid-career managers. The full-time MBA is comprised of foundation, core, and elective courses; foundation courses may be waived for students with an undergraduate degree in business. Depending on their previous preparation, students entering the program post-college can finish the MBA in anywhere between one to three years, though “there is a fast track” for current Millsaps undergraduates, which allows them to obtain an MBA with just one additional year of study. For EMBA students, it can be a challenge to balance work, family life, and academics. Fortunately, busy part-timers feel supported by the school’s faculty, and say the “administration is very personal and helpful” in response to student concerns.
Boasting both real-world know-how and a genuine dedication to teaching, Else School professors are “insightful, experienced, and entertaining.” Throughout the program, professors “do all they can to make the classroom experience worthwhile,” and the academic experience is “engaging and very interactive.” Most importantly, students feel their education has immediate real-world applicability. The professors are “experts in their fields “and” stay on top of current events and trends. Academically, “courses are tough, but you will definitely learn through rigorous application of theory.” Plus, “instructors that take time to make sure the students understand the material,” and they are very “approachable” outside of class. Not only do they maintain office hours, professors “enthusiastically give their time to support students, even after the semester is over.”
