Students Say

It’s easy to understand why many students clamor to earn an online MBA from University of Massachusetts. After all, the program is “cost-effective, highly regarded” and offers “the right mix of academic rigor and flexibility for working professionals.” And since UMass has been at the forefront of online education, “they have ironed out many of the issues that come with a purely online program.” Indeed, “professors are very comfortable with the online format” and students find that “the interfaces are intuitive and never hinder learning.” As one MBA candidate elaborates that the program "has outperformed even my best expectations," with the platform providing "multiple avenues to learn the content and engage with other students and faculty.” A fellow classmate concurs adding, noting "how much effort everyone put[s] in to connect and have discussions with others.” Of course, it also helps when your peers are “professional, motivated [and] hard-working.” Additionally, UMass MBAs benefit by having classmates from “diverse [professional backgrounds] who have significant work experience behind them allowing for interesting perspectives and engaging and informative discussions.”

Academically, UMass's online MBA provides “great business analytics” and "excellent" healthcare administration programs, and “ranks high for physician leaders,” while also providing solid degrees in entrepreneurship, finance, and marketing. Professors “do a great job of mapping out and organizing coursework so that you know what to expect, and everything runs on a predictable schedule.” If anything, students find their teachers to be more available, with multiple respondents pointing to how fast they are to "engage students on the discussion board," and praising how "professors are able to comment on real-life experience instead of just being taken straight from the book." When it comes to providing feedback, professors "go above and beyond" as they are "extremely friendly and genuinely want everyone to succeed." To that end, professors are “usually understanding that most of us work long hours and give enough time to work on projects and study for exams.”

Students Say

UMass's online MBA program has a "high online reputation" that comes from graduates who have seen their career options blossom. "The institution does a remarkable job with providing events for networking and student engagement/development," says one student who also notes that new opportunities are always being added. The Chase Career Center, for instance, allows students to have virtual coaching that aids in everything from resume reviews and interview advice to information on upcoming job fairs. A handful of students suggest that they weren't always able to take advantage of such opportunities, such as "how to capitalize on the degree," or how to "change careers," but note that they can always turn to their classmates for help. As one MBA hopeful shares, “My fellow students really care about their coursework and participation. I genuinely feel like I'm making connections when I interact with them and I largely value [their] advice.”

Campus Life

Students Say

Amherst has several colleges, making the area “a rich cultural hub, with ample concerts and performances and access to museums, restaurants and galleries.” The UMass community is very large and offers “many diverse forms of activity and social life,” which means “you can generally find anything you want to do at UMass.” The Graduate Business Association “does an incredible job creating social events” for cohorts, including well-attended “trivia nights, hikes, movie nights and other social outings.” Most students live off campus, but “the curriculum design is such that the cohort becomes very close.” These are achievers who work hard to do well, but “never at the expense of our classmates,” and “there is an atmosphere of collaboration and support.” Those who go here “utilize their diverse backgrounds to create meaningful conversations that spark intelligent dialogue”; students here are “not overly competitive, but will all end up very successful.”
