California Polytechnic University, Humboldt is well known for being eclectic, and those who attend the school do little to dispel that notion, describing themselves as “unique and conscientious,” “open minded,” “laid back,” “active,” “quirky,” “green-loving,” “organic,” “compassionate” and “diverse.” No matter how they’re described, the students consider themselves to be a tolerant bunch, accepting everyone from “the preppy girl with tanned toned skin,” to “the hippie child from the hills, complete with natural body hair and dreads.” Students relish the “tight community,” “relaxed campus vibe,” and “chill environment,” describing Cal Poly, Humboldt as “a place where you can express yourself totally without fear of reprisal.” “All about equality in diversity,” students at Humboldt learn “to live with people of all different lifestyles in a socially responsible way.”

With “natural beauty surrounding to compete against stress,” the Cal Poly Humbolt campus “is simply beautiful.” A “great place to go to school,” students describe Cal Poly Humbolt as “a place to be yourself and to learn all about what you want to do in life, and have a great time doing it!” In this “environment that welcomes all,” student are often found “partaking in rather eccentric activities you would probably never find anywhere else,” and the warm California weather means that “outdoor activities are available year round.” “Fun and very interactive,” the student body “prides itself on community respect and social diversity.” “A small college in a small college town,” Cal Poly Humbolt students relish the “tight niche family feel” that comes out of the knowledge that “getting to know students and faculty is possible.”

California Polytechnic University, Humboldt is “a good education for a good price.” “An open-minded and intimate learning environment,” Cal Poly provides “academic rigor in an exceptional environment,” “a holistic approach to learning,” and “applied, hands-on learning.” Students rave about the “personal connections” with “dedicated professors” who are “easy to get a hold of” and “whom you know on a first name basis.” The “small class sizes” provide “amazing opportunities,” and “in-class and community resources” allow students to gain “dynamic and innovative knowledge of the world.” Cal Poly Humboldt’s location, with “the ocean to the west and the Redwood forest to the east” provides a “beautiful area for naturalists and artists” and “hands on experience that most other colleges don't offer to undergraduates” especially in the areas of “botany, sciences, social sciences, fisheries, and natural resources.” The curriculum at Humboldt fosters “the skills for lifelong learning, community and political awareness” with a focus on “responsibility to nature and the environment.” Social responsibility is a current that runs through the coursework at Cal Poly.
