01. Overview

What the school is known for:

California Polytechnic University, Humboldt is well known for being eclectic, and those who attend the school do little to dispel that notion, describing themselves as “unique and conscientious,” “open minded,” “laid back,” “active,” “quirky,” “green-loving,” “organic,” “compassionate” and “diverse.” No matter how they’re described, the students consider themselves to be a tolerant bunch, accepting everyone from “the preppy girl with tanned toned skin,” to “the hippie child from the hills, complete with natural body hair and dreads.” Students relish the “tight community,” “relaxed campus vibe,” and “chill environment,” describing Cal Poly, Humboldt as “a place where you can express yourself totally without fear of reprisal.” “All about equality in diversity,” students at Humboldt learn “to live with people of all different lifestyles in a socially responsible way.”
