Paper & Pencil SAT or Digital SAT?
The answer is simple! It depends on your class year.
Seniors (class of 2024):
You'll be taking the current paper & pencil SAT
Juniors (class of 2025):
You’ll be taking the digital SAT next Spring
-
Should Juniors consider taking the paper & pencil version before the change to digital?
-
There is no right or wrong answer here. The tests differ in format and questions slightly, yet the strategies for success are similar. While the paper & pencil test is a known quantity, the digital test is shorter and in a more comfortable digital format for modern students. Focusing on the digital test is a safe choice. If you opt to take the current test, it's advisable only for students with strong PSAT scores, ongoing prep, and advanced math readiness.
Keep in mind that December 2nd, 2023 is the last chance to take the paper & pencil test. It’s not uncommon for successful students to take the SAT 2-3 times. With the limited opportunities remaining to take the current test, even if you take the current SAT this fall, you may still end up taking the digital test in the future.
-
When should you begin preparing for the test?
-
Now! If you're a Senior, or a Junior considering the current paper & pencil test, limited administrations are left, and time is ticking. If you are a Junior, the digital PSAT is approaching, and it’s a great time to begin preparing for the Spring digital SAT.
-
Is The Princeton Review ready for the digital PSAT and SAT?
-
No one is more ready than The Princeton Review! We've been mastering tests, new and old, for over 40 years. Our Research and Development Team has been hard at work for close to two years developing programs for the Digital PSAT and SAT. In fact, the Digital SAT has been administered internationally since March 2023 and, as an international company, we've been preparing students this whole time.
