Academics

The professor's at the University of Texas at Arlington "are really passionate about what they teach." It is "hard to find a class that is uninteresting or uninspiring!" In addition, students say individualized attention is first-rate; "The professors will tell a student from day one to feel free to contact them if they need help with anything; this is very beneficial and shows that they want to help the students succeed." Students in the English department specifically boast professors here are "fanatics for their subject" and committed to "students' academic progress." In addition, the music department "has overwhelmingly excellent professors." Other notable majors include the business management department where professors "strive to engage students in lecture [so they] get more involved in class." Regardless of subject, most students feel that their professors bring "real-life application and useful knowledge to the students." Though, as is the case at any large university, the occasional professor will "just go off of PowerPoint slides," students can avoid these classes by "researching the professors for a good fit for you." The University of Texas at Arlington also offers several online courses, including a degree-granting program in criminology and criminal justice.

Student Body

The student body at UTA "is extremely diverse." Students say "it would be hard not to find some group you would fit into." In general students here "value their social life while still focusing on their education." Students "fit in well because the school is so diverse. It's easy to find other people like yourself." With a large commuter population, some students here feel that "the typical student at UTA is a commuter who drives at least 30 minutes to class every day. However, it should be noted that there are dorms on campus and students who enjoy living in them. Overall, the students here "are chill and friendly." "You can stop anyone at anytime and ask them for directions and instructions any you'll receive a welcoming response." The most commonly heard statement from students is that UT Arlington "is extremely diverse. The students vary by a lot, but one common denominator is that they are mostly happy and tired."

Campus Life

UTA "offers a wide-range of things to escape academia." The Maverick Activity Center "is a great gym." Students "tend to congregate there because it has so much to offer in the way of classes, exercise equipment, and recreational fun." The library offers "a great place to hang out and study." Always responsive to student needs, the college "is making major construction improvements for the most popular areas: the activities building, food court; career center; and science, engineering, and health departments." Sports fans note Arlington itself boasts "Rangers stadium and the Cowboys stadium." When it comes to letting loose, students say, "this is not a party college. However, it's not that strict either." Many warn that "public transportation is nonexistent, so make sure you have a car." "Drinking isn't allowed on campus, so on-campus activities are usually service projects." However, there "are parties off campus" and plenty of "local bars where students hang out." In addition to "a mall right down the street," campus is "twenty minutes from two metropolitan areas, which offer a lot of fun things to do." Students say life at the University of Texas at Arlington is "a great way to experience city life without having to live in it."
