Students Say

The University of Georgia Law School offers “the right balance of academic rigor and practical application.” The academics are “challenging but rewarding,” and the school “does a great job with experiential learning opportunities. The clinics and externships offered make me feel more prepared to practice in the coming years.” The law school has an environment where “communication is extremely valued,” and the administration is “very accessible” and “makes time to meet with us on a regular basis to hear feedback.” As one student jokingly remarks, “I think our administration would practically give a kidney to a student if it would help them—they are some of the most wonderful and encouraging people I know.” The school also helps students navigate law school by pairing each student with a four-person “mentorship team” consisting of two faculty members, one current student, and one alumni member. Students appreciate that professors here are “motivated to have us learn, digest, and understand the material.” One student sums up the supportive academic environment, saying, “Every professor I have had knows my name and is willing to take all the time needed to answer my questions, give me feedback, offer advice, and get to know me.” Students also frequently cite the benefits of the school’s strong alumni network. As one student explains, “I reached out to 20+ attorneys around the country during my 2L job search, and everyone was happy to help me any way they could.”
UGA offers generous funding and a variety of unique student resources, demonstrating its dedication to student well-being. As one student puts it, the school has “incredible support for students in ways which I never would have imagined.” Examples include stipends for unpaid summer internships, access to free, lightly used professional clothing, a food bank, and a variety of free meals, including Thanksgiving meals for students who cannot or choose not to return home for Thanksgiving. These big and small details make UGA stand out as “a caring community” where “there is always someone around to help.”

Campus Life

Students Say

Students say the facilities are great, particularly the library, which has a main reading area that is “very well-lit and beautiful.” In addition, the “center courtyards provide great spaces for students to eat, read, work, or take a break outdoors between classes.” Students describe an atmosphere where “we all have fun together and lift each other up” and say it’s “very easy to make friends.” As one student explains, “We try to make an effort to do meaningful group activities, like hosting dinner or playing sports.” The city of Athens provides additional opportunities to socialize, and students take advantage of its “beautiful outdoor areas” and “booming nightlife” as well as its “vibrant music and food scene.”
The environment at UGA strikes a balance between competitiveness and collaboration. As one student explains, “Everyone is very accomplished, and it encourages you to put your best foot forward. However, it is not competitive to the point that it puts a damper on the school environment.” Rather, “people genuinely want to help” and “we all celebrate each other's wins and support each other's losses.”
