University of Houston Law Center has a “very welcoming and warm atmosphere that values active learning.” The school offers “state-of-the-art technology” and “the best librarians who are always ready and able to help.” Another strength is UHLC’s “reputation in the Houston legal community” and its strong alumni network that helps students in their careers. In addition, “the ability to get real-world practice experience” through clinics, simulation courses, and teams also “helps prepare us for our future jobs.” Overall, the professors at UHLC “are incredibly high quality.” Students find that “most professors are very interesting and interested in the material,” and “are thorough in class and very helpful outside of class.” Among this “outstanding group of professors,” there are “only a handful that students will try to avoid when taking courses.” Some students say they would like to see the school hire more full-time professors and rely less on adjunct faculty. Students also believe hiring more professors and offering more class times would help improve the course registration process. Despite these challenges, students feel the administration is “pretty responsive to the needs of the students” and runs “the day-to-day of the school well.”
One of the school’s greatest strengths is its location in Houston, which is a “booming legal market with lots of opportunities.” UHLC is “well-connected with local attorneys and judges,” and this strong connection with the local legal community helps students in their careers. The Career Development office is “amazing at meeting the needs of the students and the needs of the community, and “is invested in trying to find you a job in Houston after you graduate.” Students appreciate that the school gives them “access to so many options in law,” including clerkships, public interest, and government.

The student body is “incredibly diverse” and “very accepting and supportive.” One student says that fellow classmates lean “moderately liberal as a whole,” while another describes it as “a nice balance of liberal and conservative” viewpoints. The mix of “various political backgrounds” helps “create interesting discussions” and “most students get along well.” It can get “a little competitive,” particularly in the first year, and becomes “more relaxed” in subsequent years. However, the competition doesn’t come “at the expense of relationships,” and overall, it’s a “very friendly” environment.
UHLC has “so many clubs and organizations to choose to join” and you can find something that fits your interests. Also, “student organizations and the school bring in a variety of lunchtime speakers that offer networking opportunities and free food,” offering more opportunities for students to connect and socialize. Students praise the “brand new and beautiful” law building, which has “views of the downtown” and a rooftop “where students can meet with faculty.” Students also enjoy the city of Houston, which is “diverse, full of great food, and ripe with culture.”
