Students Say

The University of Toledo College of Law is known for its affordability and “the value the school places on professional development and preparation.” Professors here are “very approachable and encourage questions and discussion,” and the school “helps you achieve and perform well if you are willing to put in the work.” Students appreciate the “access to experiential learning” and the range of “clinical opportunities and volunteer opportunities in the NE Ohio area.” Students say the “externship placements are great experiences that can lead to good jobs.” In addition, the school’s alumni “really try to make the school the best place it can be and are more than willing to come back and speak with and assist students as they enter the legal field.” Another highlight is the Office of Professional Development, which, as one student describes, “helped me so much throughout my law school experience.”
Toledo Law has “great and understanding teachers” who “are clear on expectations of work to be completed.” Some students remark that the school “could use more new faculty,” as they are concerned with recent faculty turnover and the quality of adjunct professors. However, students say “most tenured and experienced professors are absolutely incredible” and praise the faculty for their “willingness to assist students.” As one student explains, the faculty “make themselves available for any conversation, class related or not, that someone might want to have.” Toledo Law’s professors and staff are “helpful and good at their jobs,” and the school’s overall “cost is very competitive.” As one student sums up, it’s a “good local school with a strong reputation offering education at an affordable price.”

Campus Life

Students Say

The campus is small and the law students are in one building, which makes the school “easy to navigate.” Students say the “classroom and research resources as well as the library are high quality,” although some would like to see the library expand its hours, particularly during finals. Relationships with fellow classmates are “very positive” and students “work together to help each other succeed.” The atmosphere feels relaxed, which “provides for a less stressful environment.” The “diversity of students” is among the school’s strengths, and Toledo Law provides “many activities and professional development requirements to help everyone get acclimated and ensure each student has what they need to be successful.” Students emphasize that although there are different perspectives, “most people get along” and describe a collaborative environment where classmates readily share “study resources” and “no one wants others to fail.”
