Monmouth University is a first-tier, private university that empowers students to reach their full potential as leaders who are able to make significant contributions to their community and society.
A comprehensive selection of baccalaureate and graduate degree programs in subject areas that are in demand in the workplace is offered, including a number of unique Bachelor's + Master's programs. Small classes geared toward individual attention, and led by an innovative faculty, provide a transformative learning environment where students are active participants in their education.
Monmouth's academic areas including music industry, communication, homeland security, business, and more can easily be linked with world-class learning experiences in New York City and other nearby major urban areas. Students who are interested in coastal environmental studies can focus on biological, chemical, and physical sciences, together with environmental policy and natural resource conservation and management, by pursuing Monmouth's marine and environmental biology and policy major.
The University is also close to many technology firms, financial institutions, and a business-industrial sector that provides both employment possibilities for graduates and opportunities for undergraduates to gain experience.
Monmouth's location and network provide tremendous academic opportunities to students. For example, students in Monmouth's music industry program interface with industry professionals in and beyond the classroom, managing their own record label, Blue Hawk Records. There is a real spirit of entrepreneurship on campus that comes to life through student activities like the student-managed investment fund Hawk Capital. Marine and environmental biology and policy students benefit from the University's proximity to coastal waterways.
While preparing students for successful careers in leadership roles, Monmouth University believes that a major goal of higher education is to help students develop values. These include senses of citizenship and social responsibility that enable graduates to contribute actively to the societies in which they live. Academic programs and personal development opportunities at Monmouth prepare students to take the lead in an increasingly complex, multicultural world. These opportunities--combined with the myriad of art exhibits, concerts, lectures, and sightseeing trips planned each year--provide students with shared experiences outside the classroom to match the ones they receive inside.

What students say:
Monmouth University is an "extremely diverse and integrated campus and everyone is very polite and has manners." That respect is for the best, as "many look to get involved, be a part of the student body, and find ways to encourage each other." It may also be an effect of a smaller campus, such that "you get to see the same people quite often either around campus or in your classes," This also means "you can easily make connections by networking with people." While some find enrollees to be "mostly from the Tri-State area," it's a welcoming environment where "if you make an effort to be nice to people and start a friendship they won't turn you down." Overall, Hawks are "small but interconnected and they frequently help each other through academic and social problems." A student says, "I feel like I've never experienced a place where the staff and the student body were so overwhelmingly positive, cheerful, and helpful."
The early action deadline for first-time, full-time students is December 1, and for regular decision it is March 1.
Students applying to the spring semester must do so by December 1.

Undergraduate students who are interested in the sciences, if qualified, can be involved in hands-on original research projects with faculty. Monmouth students present award-winning research at regional, national, and international conferences along with earning faculty co-authorship in peer-reviewed publications.
At Monmouth, about 10 percent of first-year students enroll in one of the University's five-year baccalaureate/master's programs. Subject areas for five-year programs are offered in computer science, business, criminal justice, education (select programs), English, history, social work, and software engineering.
Additionally, Graduate Studies at Monmouth University provides high-quality master's degree and certificate programs to students seeking to increase their professional skills and enhance their intellectual development. Monmouth also offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership (EdD). Every program curriculum aims to improve students' leadership qualities and prepare them for career advancement, career changes, or further study.

What students say
Monmouth University's core principles outline an experience of transformative learning that "truly provides ample opportunities to prepare [students] for their careers." There is an "endless amount of opportunities to gain help in any given circumstance," such as "free tutoring for the majority of classes," and career support is readily available. There's also an Experiential Education requirement that gets students into internships, service learning, and study abroad, as well as seven centers and institutes (including the Institute for Global Understanding and The Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music) that offer students the chance to gain experience beyond the classroom. Numerous conferences and panels hosted by the school "provide opportunities for students to engage with experts in their field, explore cutting-edge research and ideas, and network with professionals and peers." There are also ample chances to work with faculty, thanks to "a wonderful studentto-teacher ratio that allows for students to actually create a relationship with the professors rather than just being a face in a lecture." Faculty "are very accommodating and make themselves available for students when needed" and "are open to office hours and out-ofthe-classroom help for the students that need it." A student confirms: "My professors have allowed me to flourish....What I once thought was a dream career is within reach because of their efforts and encouragement."

Located in the town of West Long Branch, New Jersey, Monmouth is situated on a beautiful, coastal campus that is one mile from the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean and also about one hour from New York City and Philadelphia. The 159-acre campus is home to a diverse student body comprising some 6,400 undergraduate and graduate students. Students come to Monmouth from 34 states and 36 countries to participate in the University's academic programs. A ratio of 12 students to each professor enables a personalized learning environment along with mentoring opportunities.
Campus Facilities & Equipment
The Monmouth University Library holds approximately 360,000 print and electronic monographs, 74,000 print and electronic periodicals, 180 databases, and 1,200 media assets including CDs and DVDs. All academic programs are amply supported by state-of-the-art computer hardware and software and classroom/laboratory facilities. The major components supporting Monmouth academic programs include Windows, Mac OS, and Unix systems connected via an expansive wired and wireless network, which spans all campus buildings and encompasses more than 2,400 workstations in general and specialty labs and classrooms.
Off-Campus Opportunities
Putting learning into action is what makes education come alive. Experiential education, which includes internships, study abroad, select service learning projects, dedicated experiential coursework, or cooperative learning experiences, is a required part of the undergraduate curriculum. By their senior year, 77 percent of Monmouth undergraduate students have completed a practicum, internship, co-op, or similar real world experience; only forty-nine percent of graduating students at comparable institutions have done this according to the latest National Survey of Student Engagement.
At Monmouth, professional-quality experience comes in many forms, from collaborating on original research with faculty that can be presented at national and international conferences to traveling with the mock trial team and engaging in a wide-variety of academic field experiences. There are service learning and global study opportunities in Australia, England, Italy, Spain, Guatemala, Haiti, and more.
What students say:
Students describe Monmouth University's setting as being the "best of two worlds," as it's only an hour from either New York City or Philadelphia, and "the beach [is] only a mile away." The campus "is beautiful and the facilities are updated," and its proximity to the shore means "it is very popular here to go to Pier Village and go shopping and out to dinner with friends by the beach if you are done with classes for the day." Those who remain on campus will find plenty of common spaces, and the Student Center is a popular spot to "get food, chat with friends, learn more about clubs, [and] play pool." The "Student Activities Board is the best at events" and regularly puts on "fairs, movie nights, bingo nights, breakfast for dinner, homecoming, and Springfest." Rounding out the activities, Division I athletics "are always fun and usually have a good turnout of students" and "Greek life in general is a very key part of the social culture at Monmouth." All in all, students declare "it is very easy to fill your days."
