Students Say

Students choose the Regent University School of Law for its “moral values and Christian roots.” The school emphasizes the importance of both “being a great attorney and maintaining your faith,” which is reflected in the academic environment. As one student puts it, “One of the things I love about Regent Law is how the professors tie biblical principles to legal issues.” Classes often include “a short devotional, which can range from reading a passage from the Bible to singing to watching a video,” and “it's not uncommon for students to pray with one another before each final exam.” Students appreciate the opportunity to be part of a “Christian community where everyone understands that without God, none of the work matters.” As one student explains, “The ability to learn the law in an environment that honors God has helped me keep my priorities straight and remember why I am here.”
There is a “family-like atmosphere,” and the school is “focused on ensuring a successful and positive student experience.” One student gives the example of a dean who learned “every single one of our names (over 100 of us) during Orientation and always addresses us by name to this day. It is so impressive.” Professors here are “fantastically brilliant when it comes to the law, and they also care about each of us students as individuals.” Whether it’s staying behind after class, promptly answering emails, or serving as a personal reference for a career opportunity, professors are “so kind and available.” The school is strong in constitutional law and is known for the Robertson Center for Constitutional Law. As one student remarks, “I was amazed at the experience many of the professors and guest lecturers had. For example, in my constitutional law class, the professor was personally involved in litigating some of the cases.” Overall, students are “blown away by the quality of instruction.”

Campus Life

Students Say

Students rave about the campus and the school’s location in Virginia Beach. “The law building and campus are beautiful, with consistent improvements and upkeep,” says one student, and another adds, “I love being close to the beach; it is amazing.” Students often take advantage of the location for socializing and organize weekly “out-of-school group events that range anywhere from sports to dancing to beach days.” The on-campus housing “could be nicer,” but students say there’s plenty of housing around Virginia Beach, so it’s “not a big deal.” Students describe the law school as a “gorgeous facility that truly highlights the importance of our work as lawyers.”
Regent has “a great community” where “fellow students are supportive and encouraging.” While there is some academic competition, students are quick to stress that it’s “healthy competition.” As one student elaborates, “The competition is reserved for appropriate times and does not impede learning.” Many students chose Regent because they appreciate its “conservative professors and peers.” While the school does “lean conservative,” students say their classmates “are generally open to other ideas and having good conversations about political ideals.” Extracurriculars here are popular, including moot court, trial advocacy, and the law review. In addition, each week the school hosts Law Chapel, “a great time where much of the student body gathers to hear a speaker, often a lawyer, share a message. After the message and a time of worship, a student organization provides lunch and the students, staff, and faculty continue to interact.”
