Students love the small class sizes at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law. One student describes the personal and supportive academic experience, saying, “Professors are so accessible, and I can tell that they genuinely care about my wellbeing and learning environment.” Students also praise the administration for being “very helpful and accommodating” and “genuinely interested in our success.” One student sums up the caring and supportive environment of the school, saying, “Whenever a student is struggling, there will certainly be someone there to help them.” The courses are “very challenging and enlightening,” and the classroom atmosphere is “lively and insightful.” Professors are “professional, extremely knowledgeable, and committed to fairness and the success of their students.” One student describes how “all of my professors know me by name,” and another adds that “even professors that I haven't had take the time to get to know me.” Students “get individualized feedback,” and professors are “open to talk with you one-on-one,” whether through “office hours or just dropping by.”
Students say the “employment opportunities are amazing” and describe how both professors and the Career Development Office help connect students with jobs and internships. The Career Development Office hosts networking events “for a variety of areas of law” and “have the connections, time, and willingness to help.” Students add, “our proximity to downtown Salt Lake City is also super handy because we can interact frequently with the heart of the legal market in the state.”

Campus Life

Students Say

Students here “are very friendly, the environment is relaxed, and everyone seems to be happy,” and “students constantly meet up for activities and studying.” While the atmosphere can be competitive, it “feels like a friendly competition.” As one student puts it, “If anything, we are most competitive with ourselves instead of with each other.” The environment is one where “when someone wins an award or is featured in an article, we all rave and hype up our peers.” The school hosts “some fun events like little fairs and other interactive festivities,” and students appreciate the proximity to outdoor recreation like “skiing and climbing.” The law school has “a beautiful building with great resources,” including “areas for relaxation, leisure, eating, exercise, quiet study, collaborative study, and more,” and “every room has a view.” Many students are married or in long-term partnerships, and the school has “great accommodations and resources for pregnant students/moms.” There is “plenty of accessible housing in the area, and it's fairly easy to live car-free as a law student here with the surprisingly good public transit.” Overall, the “community here is incredible.” Looking back, one student says, “It was my home away from home for three years. It makes me wish law school was longer.”
