University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC)

The University of Wisconsin—Eau Claire offers "a close-knit campus," "a very good education for a very reasonable price," and "a million opportunities." "Amazing music, education, nursing, and business programs" are among the 80 or so undergraduate majors. There are "so many" study abroad programs, and, back on campus, there are "astounding graduate-level research" opportunities regularly available to hundreds of undergraduates. Even the administration at UW—Eau Claire is, for the most part, "helpful and friendly." Faculty members tend to be "dedicated people" who are "experts in their fields." They are "practical and personable" in class and "very accessible" outside of class. "My professors have all been passionate about what they are teaching," relates a computer science major, "which really motivates me to want to learn and pay attention." "Like any college, there are the crazy professors that nobody wants," counsels a physics major, "but all of the experiences I have had with professors and classes have been excellent." "There is only one professor I absolutely could not stand," adds a communication major.

"It truly feels like a private school setting," guarantees a junior, "because [the] campus is so enclosed and is surrounded by the woods and the river that cuts right through the middle of it." Also, surrounding Eau Claire is by most accounts "a great college town." Students regularly frequent the bar and cheap restaurants nearby. "Campus life is awesome." "It's not a huge school so people know each other and acknowledge one another." "You can go to sporting events, concerts in the student union, or view the campus movie, all of which are free." "A lot of people do intramural sports." Residence halls are centers of much activity. "The dorm life here is amazing and very community-based," explains a senior. "Each hall kind of has its own theme, so you get to meet people of similar majors and get advice from seniors on which classes to take, how to plan out your years at college, etc." Also, with well more thgan 200 student organizations, leadership opportunities are ample, and "it's easy for people to find their own little niche here at UWEC."
