Since 2009, I have worked as a writing tutor at a community college. I also taught developmental writing classes at the college for five years. Before entering the academic world, I worked in journalism for about 20 years as a reporter, copy editor, and managing editor. Regarding my tutoring philosophy, I believe positive reinforcement is as important as constructive criticism.
