Career Experience
When I was teaching college in Nevada, I realized that many third- and fourth-year college students still struggle with writing, note-taking, reading comprehension, test preparation, information literacy, and meeting deadlines. As much as my job was to teach history, I also realized that my job was to help students navigate the basic challenges of college. I started meeting with students extensively outside of class. Students who came to my office hours and who spent time with me one-on-one always improved. Students who were failing my class brought their grades up to passing, and students who just needed a little help getting over the hump from a B to an A saw their efforts paying off by the end of the semester. Most importantly, these students saw their skills grow—skills they would then use for the rest of their academic and professional careers. I helped an engineering student from Iran ace a test about the Nevada Constitution. I helped a first-generation college student struggling to keep her financial aid stay in school.
I Love Tutoring Because
I care about students and education. I want all students to succeed. I love working with students because that's the best way for me to make a difference in a young person's life.
